100g fair trade sun dried pineapple is ready to eat and is an ideal healthy snack for all ages. It is also delicious when rehydrated in water, juices or yoghurt. After 30 minutes, the fruit is soft enough to be pureed. The pineapple is an excellent addition to curries, tagines, compotes and cake. These smooth Cayenne pineapples have been grown by farmers groups in Uganda, East Africa. Once fully ripe, the fruits are hand-sliced and dried in specially designed solar driers. Selling the pineapples brings in household income to provide, for example, children's schooling, more livestock and better energy and water supplies.
